The fishermans sou´wester

For generations, fishermen in Lofoten worked in open boats during the winter cod season.

The traditional sou’wester protected fishermen working along the northern coast in all kinds of weather. It´s wide brim kept rain out of their eyes, while the long back protected the neck from cold seawater running inside their jackets.

Today, it remains one of the most recognizable symbols of traditional coastal life in Northern Norway.
